I have read the first book in the series and I'm in the second now. This is a fast-paced sci-fi novel. If you like the Artemis Fowl stuff, you'll probably like this.

The adventures of the Stainless Steel Rat are fun. Harrison clearly had his tongue firmly planted in his cheek when he wrote these. Slippery Jim DiGriz, criminal thief mastermind, doesn't like to injure people, he just wants to take their stuff, so the violence is generally of the "A-Team" sort, lots of explosions, big handguns, and assassination attempts rarely injure anyone.
While HH's stories about slippery Jim DeGriz, the Stainless Steel Rat are more than a little repetitive, they remain highly entertaining.
Ive been reading this series since high school, so I am a bit biased. Classic to the genre, but with a humorous light hearted edge. The pace is steady, and the plot i fairly straight forward. One of the better parts of this book and the series is the dialogue, which makes it very enjoyable.
As this is my first book review, I will end here.
Another fine page turner in the Stainless Steel Rat series. I first picked one of these up in high school, and haven't looked back. I have read this and all the others many times, wearing out paper books, and picking up used versions when I see it, so I am glad to have the option to buy it in eBook format.
The main character, Jim DiGriz, is an unrepentant crook, but not a violent man, who gets into amazing capers that are entertaining, and fun to read. This case was about time travel, chasing villains through temporal hijinks, and ultimately foiling the foe, saving his family, friends, and theSpecial Corps.
I read the first of these many years ago and enjoyed it. This book was not better or worse than the first. This time I listened to the CD. It's entertaining tongue in cheek that smacks of a cartoon. I think of Dudley Do-Right but that might be the reader taking me there. Of course, Slippery Jim is really a thief, so not an outstanding do right kind of citizen. He is hooked up with a wife that makes him look like Mr. Rogers. He spends a lot of time getting rescued by her. As in all cartoon like scenarios, he is always getting himself in a pickle but circumstances happen to fall his way and what he needs he either has, finds or it just comes along. He is a very devil may care thief who is convinced his thievery is good for the economy. It's hokey, but a light easy read. In this adventure he is slung back in time to save the world from "He", who has arranged for it to end. He has to go back to Dirt - Earth, to do this. He conveniently has an apparatus that allows him to learn English (with a Brooklyn accent), easily gets plenty of money robbing banks with his gadgets - go go gadget - and amazingly knows information about this planet no one has told him but it's necessary for the plot line so he has it. Don't think too much, just go along for the ride.
