The Heart of a Child edition by Emily Nelson Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

How can you describe such a book as this. It had me sobbing all the way through. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. I won't give details about the story in hopes that you will read it to find what a beautiful story it really is. I hope we all find a little of the love that is shared in this book. READ IT.
I enjoyed this book. Parts of it reminded me a little of Nicholas Sparks style. The beginning of the book was a little difficult but as the author explained in the prologue, she wanted to be honest and forthright as to what happens in abusive households. This book taps all your emotions. If you don't mind reading about the horrors of abuse and can get through those first few chapters, this is a good read. It shows the strength of the heroine who was able to rise above her difficult childhood with the help and love of her adoptive family to finally achieve happiness.
Wow! This story is so touching, sad, funny, sweet - it runs the gamut of emotions but is above all very inspirational. I highly recommend reading this book!! Emily Nelson brilliantly conveyed the message of hope through the most difficult circumstances in life and I finished this with a genuine love and compassion for her characters. This is a quick read with a powerful message - don't miss out on this one!
I couldn't stop reading once I started , finished it in one day!! This book takes you through so many emotions , sadness and anger for the abuse she suffered , hope , love , triumph and inspiration for the woman she grew up to be full of love , forgiveness and hope , after being able to overcome the damage done to her at the hands of her father's abuse , she not only becomes a stronger person but breaks the cycle of abuse.
I must admit that the first part of this book was hard to read; but, unfortunately it is the reality for too many young people. What spoke to me (personally) was the loss experienced in Julia's life and also of the friendship she experienced. Emily describes the experience of loss in a way that is hard to capture in words. I have no doubt that the author has been through personal loss; if not, she has an immense insight into the experience of grief. For that, Emily, I commend you. I have highlighted more passages in this book than for any other book (and I am a avid reader). I only highlight passages that resonate with me.

I know from past reviews that the authors are notified of these posts. Emily, if you are willing, I'd love to connect with you. If not, just know this book moved my heart on so many levels and I am moved by your prose and the story of "The Locket".
I literally read this book in a day and was ready to share it with everyone I knew! I haven't read many books that take you through so many emotions as this one does. Anger, sadness, hope, triumph and love are all found here as you read the story of a damaged little girl growing up to be a young lady full of love and hope.

Mrs. Nelson contributes a lot of her inspiration to Mitch Album and Nicolas Sparks, but definitely brings her own unique writing style that I found to be very pleasant. Can't wait for her next book. If you're looking for a light read that has deep lessons beyond the words you read (such as patience, overcoming low self-confidence, learning from the elderly, etc.), then I highly recommend this book. Like me, you'll want to share it as well.
This was such a heart wrenching heart filling story. As you read about Julia's childhood it breaks your heart but, as it happens that Else and Johnny her neighbors come to her rescue and help her to learn to trust people again and how through their faith in God you can do anything. You learn from this story how important it is to have a best friend which Julia found in Jessica. If you are lucky enough to have found a best friend,
You should never let it go! I could not put this book down until I finished it.
Emily Nelson does a fantastic job of capturing the essense of child abuse. While very difficult to read, it is an important subject that we should all be aware. Beautifully written, this novel gives us a very real reminder of how we can make a positive difference in someone else's life.
